Flavia Chenwi, Graduate Intern
(she/her/hers)
Telehealth Appointments
Flavia Chenwi is a student intern in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University with extensive experience in teaching and direct healthcare support. Flavia brings a background as a former high school philosophy educator and for the past twelve years, she has served individuals in healthcare settings, both of which shaped her compassionate, reflective, and client-centered approach to therapeutic counseling.
In 2003 Flavia earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, with a minor in Psychology, from the University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon, Central Africa. From 2004-2006, Flavia pursued studies in Philosophy at the Higher Teachers’ Training College (École Normale Supérieure – ENS) in which she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Philosophy. She began her professional journey as a high school philosophy teacher, where she guided students in logic, ethics, African and Western philosophies, and critical thinking skills that continue to inform her therapeutic work today.
After relocating to the United States in 2012, Flavia transitioned into healthcare to more directly support individuals in meeting their daily emotional, physical, and psychological needs. To strengthen her caregiving skills, she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in 2013 from Bear Professional Institute in Delaware. This experience deepened her commitment to compassionate care across nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, group homes, and private care environments.
Throughout her healthcare career, she has worked closely with individuals experiencing Autism, Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, as well as other mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. Flavia is known for her patience, empathy, and strong communication skills, and she consistently advocates for the dignity, safety, and well-being of those she serves. These experiences have greatly influenced her counseling philosophy by emphasizing: presence, respect, and individualized care.
Flavia continues to enhance her skills in therapeutic communication, cultural sensitivity, and emotional support within a multicultural framework while pursuing her graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University. Moving from her interdisciplinary background in philosophy, anthropology, psychology, and healthcare, Flavia approaches therapy with deep respect for each client’s lived experience and a genuine commitment to supporting healing, growth, and improved quality of life.
